UPDATE! I've washed, dried, and ironed the fabric. There wasn't much fabric left around the hoop, but I somehow managed to attach some lace with what was left! Now it's pretty and clean. :)

This is the first cross-stitch project I ever did. I was 8 or 9 years old at the time. I stitched everything myself and had my mom do the back-stitch. (She added the tongue by my request.) I even framed it myself, as you can probably see by my fabric-cutting job. xD

I need to see if I can wash the fabric - it's starting to yellow and look grungy, although you can't really tell in the picture. :/ I'm not sure how to do it, though, so if you know how then please give me some tips!

I bought this kit in 2002 or 2003, so I'm not entirely sure where I got it or where you can get it now, but I'm fairly sure it's a Janlynn kit. Find more Janlynn kits here: [link]

Whenever I wash my cross stitch I do it by hand, using cold water and a gentle laundry detergent (like Woolite). If I don't have Woolite I use gentle liquid hand soap (typically white or clear, not colored). I get it good and sudsy, rinse it all out and then roll it in a hand towel (or bath towel if it is a bigger project) to get most of the moisture out. Then lay it out flat to dry.

Once dry it will likely need some pressing with an iron to take wrinkles out. I turn the project over (so I'm pressing on the back side of the stitching and put a thin cloth (like a handkerchief) between the project and the iron.

Ah, thank you! :) I'll try that. I have experience with ironing my projects so it should be fine. Thanks again!
